Short term market mentality

I am surprised at the short term gain stories carried by the Indian financial news sites. Shouldnt they be preaching long term investing?

Sometimes I think that the Indian stock market is in a bubble. Why? Well, people talk about shares during parties. Everyone you know invests in the stock market for short term gains. They will buy any share you recommend (hot tip!). If, unluckily, you dont invest in stocks then you are out of the conversation.
