Huawei to invest in India

5/02/2006 10:34:00 PM, posted by anand

According to this Business Standard report, the Chinese telecom major - Huawei, is going to invest $100 million in India. They will also setup a manufacturing plant in India.

This is the first time I've heard of a Chinese company opening up a manufacturing plant in India. Unbelievable, huh?

Isnt China supposed to be the manufacturing megahaven? Readers, India has a long way to go before it can compete with China on manufacturing. The last paragraph in the story clarifies their seemingly insane step to setup manufacturing in India: "The company realised it needs to set up a manufacturing base locally so that it may bid for BSNL contracts, and has sought government approval for the same"
