On March 1st, I had sent an email to Tata Indicom, questioning their policy to charge for dialup when their DSL was down. They replied back on March 5th:

Dear Mr. Jain,

We regret for the inconvenience caused to you.

With reference to your mail, we understand that you have used the dial up connection when the broadband connection was down. We also understand that you would like the charges for using the dial up connection to be waived off from your bill. Please be informed that your request has been notified to the billing team with reference number: xxxxxx and the feedback about the same will be provided to you at the earliest.

Thank you for your time and patience.

For any further assistance, please feel free to contact Customer Service http://internet.vsnl.com/contact/customercare.htm ( the link contains the location wise contact numbers ) or mail us on customerservice@vsnl.co.in. We will be delighted to assist you.

Warm Regards,
xxxxx xxxxx,
Customer Service
TATA Indicom

So now I wait to hear back from the billing department.

Meanwhile, a journalist from CNN-IBN wants to hear stories on the pathetic state of broadband. Follow the forum here.
