Indian marriage, western attire

2/18/2006 01:31:00 AM, posted by anand

Funny, how in an Indian marriage with all the traditional stuff like shehnai, dhol, the bridegroom's horse, panditji, naach-gaana, bollywood songs et al, most the male relatives dress up in a coat-suit.

The coat suit is a garb that is not inherently Indian. It was brought over by the Britishers. They ruled us long enough to engrave the coat-suit in our psyche as an ultimate form of formal wear. Now it is just accepted as a part of tradition.

ps: Not everyone wears coat suits. But most of them do. Others wear traditional Indian stuff like sherwaanies, kurta-pyjamas, nehru coat etc.
