Billion dollar investment club

12/07/2005 06:39:00 PM, posted by anand

So Microsoft just announced that they are going to invest $1.7 billion in India, becoming the latest company to join the billion dollar investment club. Earlier this week it was Intel who announced their intentions to invest $1 billion and before that it was Cisco with $1.1 billion.

These are not recession affected companies trying to cut costs by employing cheap labor or setting up call centers in India. These are the mighty giants who can see a market opportunity in India.

The Indian investment influx pales in comparision to China. While China got about $60 billion of foreign direct investment, India just got $4.3 billion. Its is a tiny amount (ah, talk about things being relative, even $4.3 billion seems small when compared), but India is headed in the right direction.
