Dell UltraSharp monitor tales

8/01/2005 11:30:00 PM, posted by anand

Our new Dell 19" UltraSharp monitor was delivered to us, this evening. I use the same model at work and the quality as well as the brightness of the LCD monitor are impressive. So I ordered one for home as well. Not to mention that the price was tempting was well - $280. Usually, these go for around $350 plus.

Anyways, so I put the whole thing together and hooked it up. Discovered that the screen (the monitor, not the image) had a slight tilt on one side and it had a bad pixel as well. Tried 5 different numbers from Dell's site (why do they make it so difficult to find telephone numbers off their site?) and all ended up going nowhere. I even tried to do that online customer support chat thing, but that asked me to enter a service tag number and this monitor didnt have any such tag. To cut to the chase, when I finally did talk to a customer service rep, he made me perform the troubleshoooting steps and transferred over to another lady, who did the same thing. After being 2.5 hours on the phone, it was still impossible to convince Dell to send me a replacement. They said "Oh, its just one dead pixel". Yeah right!

Finally after a lot of haggling, I convinced them to ship me a brand new replacement, not the refurbished crap. It is going to be delivered in 3-4 business days.
