Gmail confuses email addresses

So lets say you have a gmail account like hello.user@gmail.com. From what I have been noticing since the past few days is that messages addressed to hellouser@gmail.com (no dot in the email address) would reach hello.user@gmail.com. This is totally wrong and wierd!

I keep getting messages for this guy who doesnt have a dot in his email address (I have a dot in my gmail address).
