India as a manufacturing base

12/01/2004 10:33:00 PM, posted by anand

Is it just me or have you people also noticed that recently a few companies have announced that they are going to setup a manufacturing base in India. In the past couple of days, I have read stories of Nokia, Sharp, AMD and even some automaker (cannot recall the name) have announced plans to setup up their manufacturing plants in India. Is this the beginning of a new trend? Previously I thought, that China ruled the hardware/manufacturing space while India owned the services/IT space. But recent announcements seem to hint that new manufacturing setup is coming India's way.
